Eric Readinger
3:41
We're rolling, buddy. We're rolling. Yeah.
Law Smith
3:45
You look like you're in a snuff film.
Eric Readinger
3:48
So do you. doesn't look good. my mic looks yellow, huh?
Law Smith
3:52
Dude, I went in it. Look, I've set up the soft light. I tried to make it a real production. Cuz I didn't want to let you down.
4:02
I let myself down.
Law Smith
4:04
Well, here's I was trying to think of, since everybody's working from home now, right? It's that thing of like, I, I'll probably do it because now we have we have a weird amount of time on our hands that we don't realize, like, this is kind of a mid phone away. I'm trying to look at it.
Eric Readinger
4:25
I am.
Law Smith
4:27
Well, like, think about it like, okay, so you're basically eliminating all the extracurricular activities, right? Yeah. You and I've always talked about like, having that that structured schedule is the best so even we both have kids, we're going to have to do the Little House on the Prairie shit where we're, we're teaching them by the way, have you seen the beginning of that movie? hospitals, hospitals. Yeah,
5:02
it's blockbusters.
5:04
Yeah, you get a Hollywood video videos. I'm making fun of that. You called it hospitals. Is it hostiles hostel
5:13
while still just one
Law Smith
5:15
hostel?
5:16
Yes. Oh my god.
Law Smith
5:19
I did the dad thing where I pluraleyes something that was singular.
5:23
Yeah, blockbusters is?
Law Smith
5:25
No, it's that Christian Bale movie.
Eric Readinger
5:29
Oh, that's a different one.
Law Smith
5:32
So I'm talking about the beginning files. Yeah. The beginning of the movie is crazy. Because it shows this is all I kind of think about it. When I'm thinking. This is a morbid thought. But if you watch the beginning of that movie, it's pretty it's a really good movie. It's on Netflix, I think. And I definitely watched it on there a couple months ago. I don't know if it's still on there. But the beginning of the movie is a mom teaching her daughters adverbs like what an adverb is. And the dad's outside like I don't know, like collecting lumber or something like that like chopping wood right? And then a bunch of engines i think is how the the PC way to call it yeah bunch of bunch got Yeah, like a bunch of horses kill the dad and then it's like oh my god this is the worst movie I've ever seen. That's the beginning it's it's like a Terry Gilliam kind of setting that it's very like the very it's very Christopher Nolan asked the way it's shot I thought like the cinematography is amazing, whatever. Anyway, I think about that, where it's like, oh, yeah, well, everybody really had to teach their kids shit. And it's not that hard. I think about like everybody complaining about having to do all this stuff at home and it's like, Yeah, but we have the internet.
6:58
Yeah. Oh, dude. We taught her don't ride a bike like never ride a bike this week.
7:03
Yeah. Which is way past due. But still,
7:07
we're getting things done.
Law Smith
7:09
Look, I need to step up my,
7:12
my daughter's two and a half and I need to get better about being able to do her hair because I it's one of those little things in my head that I brought down on my list. Hey, you need to get better at this. You can
Eric Readinger
7:24
have a head start though you already do ponytails for yourself. She will but she will.
Law Smith
7:28
She doesn't want a man button. My dad so she you know, you got to step up to pigtail game. But
7:36
I do ponytails. That's it.
Law Smith
7:38
It's about like worried if she wants it lightweight. She doesn't want to do her really long now so she doesn't want a lot of weight in the bag. So when she said she's, she said yeah, she said distribution of hair weight.
7:50
Yes.
Law Smith
7:52
Um, you know,
Eric Readinger
7:52
is this the show? Did you even intro the show?
Law Smith
7:55
No, I thought we're doing that post. Oh, okay. Yeah, this is the show. Okay. Are you new? feel like it
8:04
feels really.
Law Smith
8:05
I feel like a beaten girlfriend the way this. I'm looking at you on video but your heads to the side.
8:11
Yeah, yeah, keep talking,
Eric Readinger
8:14
talking to me just playing on the computer the whole time,
8:17
right? I'll get to it. I'm playing suit.
Law Smith
8:22
I can play snood and listen,
Eric Readinger
8:23
we should let everybody know the new studio is actually actually for real 100% happening. I've been working on it building it shortly, hopefully later this week, we'll be able to get in there and record for real.
Law Smith
8:36
Yeah, my question I should have asked off air. But I'm going to do it now is do we have six feet of room to be able to pod with you and I because I still want to keep that social distancing. We'll have to figure it out. You know, like,
Eric Readinger
8:53
three foot hula hoop beach, you know, but around our waist. It's whatever.
Law Smith
8:57
Oh, I have a tape measure with me everywhere. I have My wide receiver gloves for the doors. Yeah, yeah. And I have people people like those, the medical like CVS style mass like you're putting on right now. You know it's got like two white kind of elastic parts that go around your ears, but I've got the I've got the spray paint kind you know the the harder one that you feel a little bit more like a ninja. Yeah, like,
Eric Readinger
9:31
like World War One. Yeah. And I gotta say, I catch myself and others I catch myself in their flexion with all that shit on. I look fucking badass. Fucking. I look like Bane. I do love seeing the new like the old ladies at the store what their ideas are. So I saw two old ladies with rubber gloves on. When they're standing about eight inches from each other's faces, using up their phone with like yellow Cleaning gloves on, like, look at my grandchild to breathe in all over each other.
Law Smith
10:05
Right? And the phones like the worst part?
Eric Readinger
10:07
Yeah. I mean, not anything but your hands. I would say
Law Smith
10:12
the things that's kind of Alright. So my biggest kind of trying to articulate this right this is that that's what makes this a little difficult because we're all no one's ever dealt with this, right? Really? Like, there. We have the economy has it 100% collapse yet but the nervousness of feeling that forthcoming. We're recording this on, what is it the 30th you know, afternoon, March 30 afternoon, so it's like, everybody's feeling that anxiety, anybody that's worked in a service. If you're in the service, business, even professional services that most people can work from home, you know, your lawyers, your accountants, all that stuff. Though, they're feeling that effect too, because they're going to lose a lot of clients. I'm feeling I had a lot of b2b clients. In my pipeline that are either just said like straight up like the, the way the messages get to me or like, they're on fire, they're basically like, we got to cancel our talks until I can talk to you later. Yeah, like shit like that. Yeah, really?
Eric Readinger
11:19
Yeah, it's crazy, dude. I mean, there there are those the stimulus stimuli coming out packages I've been going through and figure because like, there was one in Florida that we got that was like, up to 50 grand for a year, no interest, the jority apply. I already well, I started to do the paperwork for that one and then another one comes out where it's like, two and a half months of your payroll, whatever minus this minus that with possibly no payback. You happen and it's like, Okay, what is happening?
11:54
And it's just like,
Eric Readinger
11:55
it's a big paper word quiz. Like if you could do the paperwork, you might get it
Law Smith
12:00
But it's so yes. So that we need to find I want to find someone that knows how to apply for those because that's not, you know, well, I want to I want the tips I want. But there's got that application has to be like, you know, there's got to be a strategy to it right
Eric Readinger
12:21
now. I don't think so. I think he just filled out. The one I was looking at today was basically the thing was like, call your primary lender and see what they do and go from there. But like, right, the one I was looking at that as a possible no payback, you don't have to like you can go there for shopping with a bank and then they'll kind of lead you through it.
Law Smith
12:44
Well, y'all, y'all business is in a different position than I think most. Most might. Well, not most, but I'd say you're probably actually you're probably average to a lot of local small businesses. Were y'all major lender already Whereas I'm looking at it like, you know, probably more of the gig economy worker style that is doing their own thing but doesn't have never had that that doesn't have a current loan going like that, like a professional Big Boy one.
Eric Readinger
13:20
Yeah. Well, it doesn't have to be, you know who you're banking with would be a good start, you know,
Law Smith
13:25
right. But I'm saying like what I'm saying is like there's I have a list I was pulling. I want to give a shout out to the guy who wrote it. There's a very comprehensive list on on QuickBooks is below blog that has it keep updating every day, there was something I wanted to do, but just didn't get around to it because my computer's been shot the last week. I just fixed it today. But the this guy this, this writer has been updating. Here's every bridge loan application that they know of for you. state. And then here's a, they don't have the city ones. But then I was finding other ones just by a Google Alert. That was Facebook's got one, right? They have they're they're doing I want to see all the private ones, right? So if we have listeners that are kind of trying to figure this out, here's what I think. Here's how I would go about it, check out the SBA loan. You know, you might as well look into applying for that. You don't have to take it. It doesn't do a hard pull or anything. You might as well you might as well apply for these things and just see what happens. So you have the options down the line, or at least gather
Eric Readinger
14:41
the info that they're all gonna ask for it. Correct your tax returns together, get all whatever, you know, financials that you anticipate and like that's certainly one of them.
Law Smith
14:50
There's three different federal ones for the SBA thing, according to that QuickBooks article. There's There's even ones for The gig economy workers, the digital freelancers, the people that have no health insurance have no insurance at all, you know, basically are doing whatever they can online work right stuff like that. Then every state pretty much has its own stimulus package for bridge loan to and I'm kind of shorthand in bridge loan as no interest you know, loan for a crisis right now. Yeah. And then and then look up your your city. So we're in Tampa, the city of Tampa has a lot of their own worth looking into, and then the county as well. So Well, I would say start with the ones that are possible that you don't have to pay back. I know that sounds absurd.
Eric Readinger
15:52
Nope. It's a stimulus. It's the same as bailing out the banks or bailing out the people like i think i think it was the SBA seven In a loans that I was talking about where it's if you keep all of your employees on, you can get like two and a half months of whatever your payroll costs are to keep people out having to pay him because the unemployment is like insane right now.
Law Smith
16:21
Right? There's no such thing as a free lunch. That's where my head goes, when I hear no pay back there there is
Eric Readinger
16:27
tell that to the auto industry.
Law Smith
16:30
What's like we talked about on the show a lot like if you have health insurance, you should have to do, you should you don't have to opt in, but it should be so incentivized to opt in on those wearables or whatever. Like we shouldn't have to pay insurances, a pool of money. We shouldn't have to pay a higher premium because 40% of Americans are obese, you know, like it's,
Eric Readinger
16:56
it's one of those things they're just gonna print more money quantitative easing,
Law Smith
17:01
quantitative easing. Yeah, I know, I know. I have heard that term a long time. He's a back end baby. Lots of and yeah, I'm just saying there's there is. So between your federal, your state, your city in your county, there's a lot of options for a lot of people. And like you if you so happen to live in Seattle, near Amazon, like just that proximity near Amazon is helping you because they have their own. So there's private ones too. If anybody knows the private one, send them to us. We'll try to push it out there but like, I know Facebook's doing theirs in it. I think it breaks down to only like 33 $3,333 average that they'll be able to give to each applicant, that whatever their cutoff was for maximum amount, right. But, you know, that's for digital agencies. So you know that there's a lot of stuff out there I feel like that I've my my gut feeling without really thinking, you know going too deep on it is this is a weird This is a weird one because it's like,
Eric Readinger
18:17
there's like nowhere else to turn but the government like what are you going to do because you look around it's like well, I had to stop paying I had to fire my guy cuz I you know everybody's losing business and then it's just this crazy snowball effect.
Law Smith
18:30
I don't know. It's weird. It's weird because it's not like there's one thing to blame except a lot of people are making the China jokes you know, just like, or that big black dudes card that everybody gets misdirected text
18:44
misdirected Yeah, I think you've sent it to me like 14 times.
Law Smith
18:47
I sent it to her.
18:50
Yeah, my dad, your dad's hilarious.
Law Smith
18:53
He's like, Please stop. He was I can't wait to look him in the eyes and laugh about it. He'll be like, Uh huh, yeah.
Eric Readinger
19:02
Good. Looking forward to that, too.
Law Smith
19:06
I was like, This is gonna be extra weird when I see Eric's dad again.
Eric Readinger
19:09
It'd be fine if you're a winner.
19:13
I don't know. I mean,
Law Smith
19:15
I'm the one throwing those whatever I want. So, I think that's like, worth looking into. But I want to try to see if there's a strategy for it. There's, there's people that know how to do this. Especially like, what's going to be predatory too. Yeah, right. There's going to be shade out there that like, not everybody. Not everybody is even following the rules right now. And my big overall theme is that a lot of people are acting like the severity is the same thing as the contagious part. Right. So this is the death toll is it really as severe as what we feel like we're missing? construing the two things like yeah, proactive measures that are, you know, a little, uh, that are seem a lot more
Eric Readinger
20:14
seemed like an overreaction because right i think that the the we were thinking Ebola, right from the eyes and barfing blood you know, it's like, right I mean, that's good. It's not good, but like, lots of people recovered,
Law Smith
20:29
but they're saying
Eric Readinger
20:30
like Tom makes coming back Oscar next year.
Law Smith
20:33
Right and Dyson the biggest story is Dyson already made in 10 days made a better ventilation thing for a system that should be the fucking fuck that tiger. Cat Tiger can put whatever. Like that guy's bullet everywhere.
Eric Readinger
20:51
I don't know man. It's pretty interesting story. If you haven't watched I'll check
Law Smith
20:53
it out. But I'm saying like, the day the Dyson story should be the lead.
Eric Readinger
20:58
Not that guy. I will say there's Yeah, I've seen a lot of news stories about manufacturer, some car manufacturers, they're like shifting their manufacturing to just straight up produce respirators now and so it's a nice thing to see like, they're, they're cutting back on, you know, the stuff that makes them money to try and help the common good. Finally,
Law Smith
21:17
well, no, it's not even that it's, it's where the money goes sometimes because I look I'm talking to manufacturers every day as as potential clients and people have been talking to and they they're looking around going, Okay, we just lost two of our biggest, you know, clients that can't pass, like people are straight up just getting like, Oh, we have three clients where I was a manufacturer and two of them just told us that they're not gonna pass again. And so they're looking around and going, like, what do we have here? Right, we could flip this and, and so really good. I fully believe that people will find if you've ever Had a water leak on your roof. It's the worst because water it'll find its way to find that little opening. Wherever it is, if you try to patch it, you're gonna patch and it's gonna find another scene, right? I feel like this one. I feel like most people's you can call it American entrepreneurial ism or you can call it just self protection. But I feel like most people, a lot of people that are gonna figure out a way to bounce this back, right? Yeah, my biggest thing is we have the internet this isn't outbreak that movie where it's hard to do business we like the fact that we have zoom is fucking amazing. Yeah.
Eric Readinger
22:50
10 years ago, this would have saw,
Law Smith
22:53
right? The end like I put I tried to write something I couldn't figure out how to make it a funny enough joke, but it was like What if we were not in mid 90s? With AOL? Like we have internet? We know we can get to people but we suck at it and it slowly signals out the ass. Right? And someone gets on the phone to that 56 k? Yeah, you have to get a second phone line. So like, you have to get all those AOL discs with minutes on it and shit. So it's like, there is things to look at and be like, this could be a lot worse to and, and I think people will have to pivot short term I like that most people are like, I was talking to my sister. She's like, fuck it. She's in a really nice house, but she's like, fuck it. I'm doing all these outside projects. And I put an above ground pool cuz Yeah, anymore. And I'm like, Yeah,
Eric Readinger
23:48
I like that. Oh, dude, our house looks entirely different. We painted the entire inside of our house got our kitchen redone like forget and stuff like stuff that we've been putting off is finally getting done.
Law Smith
23:59
I've made time to To reach out to people I haven't talked to you a long time. And it's just, again, kind of not to book any
Eric Readinger
24:08
Coronavirus. Listen to this guy.
Law Smith
24:11
Why don't want to read, I don't want to wring my hands and talking to people helps. And just I like I used to be like that guy that would just randomly call you anyway, I used to do it when I was in traffic a lot and I found myself. I found myself not not doing that as much because it just wasn't driving a lot like you and I are used to this work from home life. Some good rules I heard are like great boundaries. Like I'm wearing a nice shirt because I did a meeting earlier. But like when I'd get up and go do work, I'm much better if I get up just not stay in my PJs
Eric Readinger
24:52
stand up. Let's see them pants.
Law Smith
24:55
Oh, yeah. Boom.
Eric Readinger
24:57
Yeah. You won't see that in shorts thoughts. Oh,
Law Smith
25:00
Yep, yeah, jean shorts, one nut
Eric Readinger
25:04
out each leg, I've got it cropped, I saw the whole thing.
Law Smith
25:07
It's a, so that was was gonna be for like writing a little content more and more. I'm trying to put it out there that I need to utilize this time to double down on both our podcasts because we know that's in a good direction. And, you know, we have the ability to do a lot more content now that we have time to fill up, right? Yeah, yeah. So I was I was writing I was dictating while walking the dog last night about just here's, here's how to not be a total asshole on zoom. When you're doing a meeting, and one was wear pants wear, wear appropriate clothing or jeans. You're not a sports center. Anchor from the 90s where they'd wear a blazer basketball shorts. Yeah. Like you can't because more times than not I've been called out I'd get up to, like, get a cup of water while I'm on a meeting. You know, I've got your back and be like, are you wearing neon? shorts? You're like, shit. Just no. Good. Roll out.
Eric Readinger
26:16
dip down.
Law Smith
26:17
Yeah. But you're in the middle of a meeting and you're not thinking about it. Right? Like, you're just like, you're not thinking about your framing. Oh, yeah. That's the frame yourself correctly. A lot of people will if you're looking at this, this video, there'll be like, What? What am I doing? They'll just have like their chin. Yeah. And it'll be like an up. Can you hear me? Right up shot? It's like talking to a guy George buress on.
Eric Readinger
26:42
Yeah, the dad and the dad angle.
Law Smith
26:47
My biggest thing though, is like, Hey, why don't you get there? 15 minutes early. And if you don't know, the app or your computer, maybe be curious and figure that out. Like
Eric Readinger
26:59
Yeah, like we Today where it took us an hour to figure this out the proper way,
Law Smith
27:04
who knows it won't work. We were trying to do more advanced shit with our live stream studio. Software, we might do OBS, I don't know, but we can figure that out. You know, we don't have to. We just feel like all right now we can't be perfectionist. We got to just get an episode out there. I know. It's been a while but I'm saying like, how many how many a video conferences Have you been on that start on time because everybody's ready to go? Yeah, there's always one person that's like, Oh, I got to download a plug in Hold on. Yeah, or like, or they don't know how the audio settings work. Easy hint. If you have an iPhone and use zoom, they've got a one touch button, boom, boom. it'll it'll dial all fit for you. Either like me code and all that.
Eric Readinger
27:52
Yeah. Sweet. Losing a little bit robot face. But
Law Smith
27:57
you can use your iPhone or your phone as your audio and then turn off the fucking audio on your computer because what a dad move is, is they use the speaker off their laptop
Eric Readinger
28:12
yeah get that reverb dog
Law Smith
28:15
right but they don't know that because they have dad hearing right
28:21
so they just saw your green getting I hear
Law Smith
28:22
it's always someone the people that do that the most it's always a higher up that no one has to be able to be like Excuse me sir Can you can you fix this
Eric Readinger
28:34
boss
Law Smith
28:36
right so it's like get 15 minutes early check the shit out hey maybe hardline your internet? I know.
28:42
That's why I got your I don't have our line on you right now. I'm losing you. Really still here but
Law Smith
28:50
and then if you want to step up your game like you can get some cheap production equipment. You know, online, you get a microphone like Eric's using right now.
Eric Readinger
29:01
you force me to be up close to the camera. I recognize that I'm much closer than you. I'd prefer your framing. cool guy with the button down but
Law Smith
29:10
yeah, I'm gonna put one button down
Eric Readinger
29:13
bad with the nose hairs.
Law Smith
29:15
But like I put a soft light up. Do I know lighting the best? No, but just go This looks like if we're shooting a documentary. This was work
Eric Readinger
29:26
yeah, you know I needed to do that I got this yellow light, get the golden shower look
Law Smith
29:32
right you can step it up you don't have to be like makeup tutorial YouTube artists, like wondering why you can just ring lights, fine ring lights, maybe better for a lot. If you're up close.
Eric Readinger
29:44
Yeah, if it's, if it's like this, that's, you know, just one shot of your face. Yeah, that works.
Law Smith
29:50
And then the other thing is that that boundary of working from home that a lot of people don't know unless they've done it is when you're at work, you're at work kind of thing. Like working from the kitchen counter doesn't I call that kind of either kind of Hurry up and wait work or like lightwork like, you know, your personal email stuff or like, stuff that you don't need your, your whole brain for kind of thing. Yeah. So when you're doing you as the person doing your work with the video, you got to be aware of the sound behind you to like that it's not bothering the shit out of everybody else in that at your house.
Eric Readinger
30:31
Yeah, sure. It's good.

So, you know, seal up. So sound is like, wherever there's air. You know, if you have a door like that has a big gap between the floor and the bottom of the door. You plug that shit up with a tower or something? Well, because it's not like everybody's gonna be able to hear you throughout the whole thing. You know,
Eric Readinger
30:56
Oh, you don't like your roommate.
Law Smith
30:58
Just anybody. I was just I was hearing a, I was just listening to a couple podcasts that were talking, just kind of bitching about this stuff. And I was like, Yeah, but it's also both ways. Like, you got to be respectful of other people in your in your domicile, you know?
Eric Readinger
31:15
Yeah. Yeah. I guess. Run this place.
Law Smith
31:19
Yeah. Yeah, I do whatever. You mean, the snuff film basement? It looks like you're in
Eric Readinger
31:26
Yeah, in this room. I get to wherever I want
31:29
that door.
Eric Readinger
31:31
I'm on duty. It's
Law Smith
31:32
like my man cave cubicle.
Eric Readinger
31:35
Yeah, yeah.
Law Smith
31:37
No. Where are we at? What's the timeline?
Eric Readinger
31:39
We're at about 28 so we should probably wrap it up. Polly's getting awfully windy out there.
Law Smith
31:46
Well, there's a lot of I mean, there's a lot of stuff to go over. But again, I want to try to see if we can get, you know, it might be better for us to get good guests because people are now used to doing more video and People were home, you know,
Eric Readinger
32:02
better for us people understand how to use this stuff. Although we really haven't had a lot of problems. It seems.
Law Smith
32:07
You've seen Have you seen so that there's a local church here?
32:12
That was live streaming? with like, 1000 people there. Oh my god. I saw I read it like the main page. The one from here
Eric Readinger
32:23
in Tampa church. Yes. I was like, I don't want to know.
Law Smith
32:28
I saw it is like it. It's basically like, Fuck you. It's like, That's such a fuck you. And it. It's one of those I want to say it's the one that speaks in tongues like a Pentecostal. God.
Eric Readinger
32:44
Right is evangelical something.
Law Smith
32:47
Yeah, something like that. So it's like, I was like, What the fuck like, to me, I'm like, you guys don't have to go like that sweet. I know. I'm still a little kid about it. Like I don't want to go I go to church as an adult, but I still it's like, wow, I don't want to go.
Eric Readinger
33:06
You're like, I'm going to try and go to church. Why?
33:11
on TV, you know,
Law Smith
33:12
it's something I don't want to do, and I know it's in a right direction. It's like jogging, like, I know. Like, get it you know, long distance running is good for me. If I kind of continue to do it, and a lot of different ways, but fucking fucking hate it so much.
Eric Readinger
33:34
I'm just gonna leave it alone. But I'm not going to pick that apart.
33:38
Why? Well, because
Eric Readinger
33:39
if you run you have a direct benefit. You can lose weight, you know?
Law Smith
33:45
Yeah, I get the benefit of that churches community for me. So I plus I like
Eric Readinger
33:50
that's why that's what you need more community.
33:53
Right? We all equals girls more.
33:56
And why
Eric Readinger
33:57
be up in people's grills more?
Law Smith
33:59
Yeah. I said the Lord's gonna smoke you. You're there for the free doughnuts after
Law Smith
34:05
we got bagels at ours cuz we're down. Geez. Okay.
Eric Readinger
34:10
Cool.
Law Smith
34:14
All right, well,
Eric Readinger
34:15

Law Smith
34:16
without all the bells and whistles. Yeah.
Eric Readinger
34:20
All right. Well, we'll see you. I miss you too, buddy. Few days. We're gonna have that studio set up. We'll be good to go. It'll be a whole different ballgame.
Law Smith
34:30

Eric Readinger
34:37
They don't want to see our morning cheer.
Law Smith
34:40
